![]() This doesn't make any sense to me at all because i've flooded 10 level forts all the way to the surface with breaching streams before. I've always had problems with water only filling to the first ramp. Of course just before and after the grate are ramps gong up that that slightly higher section. You put a grate in with a lever (so your dwarf can exit the tunnel before you seal it at the last upward bend before the breach. With ~ being the tunne of water, and - being the surface of the pond. Then over some, up again, then down again. The basic idea I read from their post is you dig too below the water level. An important note: Even 100% cave adapted dwarves did not get unhappy sunlight thoughts when sent on missions, but their cave adaptation was reset.I read the wiki I have built wells, before but someone had this marvelous idea of building a well with access to a cavern pool. Hopefully some of the above will give people an idea what to expect from missions. I have not yet tried tribute or occupation. So I sent him off to visit some humans and next summer perhaps I will get two human caravans. However the WIKI is correct: the next fall I received a caravan from them. This being DF, it's possible these missions awake a demon horde or something, but at the moment it feels like a reasonably safe way to make dwarves with unhappy thoughts about needing to wander happy.įinally, I found a use for my lump of an outpost liason and sent him alone to a distant dwarf fortress with whom I had no contact to DEMAND their surrender. In all 4, nothing at all happened and they brought nothing home. Next type I tried was I sent out squads to EXPLORE 4 abandoned fortresses. However while all this was going on, the goblins didn't come raid ME. I am debating what to do with that goblin settlement now. So I whittled them down and in the last raid gained a sizable herd of beak dogs. I kept count the troll numbers never went up. Seems some guys who had joined on to monster hunt had, well, gone off to hunt monsters before the wall was finished, got trapped outside and then died of thirst. However on several return RAIDS, the troll population steadily dwindled and I lost no more units. Safely Exploring or Accessing Caverns So, I've had some funny deaths because when I breached into a cavern I walled off an area to use for farming. and lost 4 war dogs to trolls and, you guessed it, my old steel-clad dwarves who had joined the goblins. So I sent 4 squads to the same place on a RAID. The "missing" missions didn't even seem to do anything, the goblin rescue seemed to involve my squad going there and doing nothing. I sent 2 squads after two missing dwarves and 1 squad of disposables to RESCUE one with the goblins, hoping they'd be smart enough to get them all. Pillaging seems like a choice only when you are fairly sure of your target. ![]() So, population counts in the Civilizations screen may not be a very accurate way of determining the difficulty of a mission. So there's no way to check if a z-level has caves or not other than just. not sure if all are like this but one I found was massive so if I had dug elsewhere on my zone I likely would have ran into it anyway. No problem, I thought, my squads handle goblins with ease. I just dug stairway straight down to bottom and found some that way. I then sent 40 steel-clad warriors to a goblin settlement ~30. I them sent a squad to RAZE a small goblin village. My dwarves came back with poor loot and no experience. I started by RAIDing some small goblin settlements of about ~10 pop. I am the mountainhome and have no settlements very close by to grow my civ. Therefor, you might be causing caveins if youre hollowing out rooms via a combination of d ig and c h annel. ![]() If either of these pieces is wholly disconnected, a cavein will occur. If you mine out the tile body, the tile floor remains. Since FUN wasn't coming to me other than the occasional forgotten beast or easily vanquished goblin raid, I decided to go seeking some. Tiles in Dwarf Fortress have two parts: the tile body and the tile floor. I learned that you can send dorfs out to other places.
